WHY YOU CAN'T PUT IT DOWN: Bloons TD 5
The Tower Defense That Ate a Decade
Bloons TD 5 perfects the tower-defense formula with monkeys, bloons, and an escalating arms race of dart monkeys, tack shooters, bomb towers, and banana farms arrayed along winding tracks. The cartoon aesthetic masks genuine strategic depth — tower placement, upgrade path selection, and ability-timing decisions on the hardest maps and modes rival the complexity of much more serious-looking strategy games.
A Tower for Every Strategy
Twenty-one tower types, each with dual upgrade paths that diverge dramatically at tier 3 — a dart monkey can become a rapid-fire juggernaut or a precision crossbow sniper, but not both. The upgrade-path commitment per tower forces hard strategic choices within each match, and different maps reward entirely different tower compositions.
Co-op That Changes Everything
Two-player co-op splits the map, the cash, and the tower responsibility. Coordinating tower coverage so your partner's snipers cover the lanes your bomb towers can't reach, pooling cash to afford a high-tier upgrade neither could buy alone, and debating upgrade-path choices in real time transforms a solo puzzle into a collaborative strategy session.
Daily Challenges, Endless Mastery
Years of post-launch support mean the map pool, challenge variants, and special mission types (reverse track, half cash, impoppable difficulty) create a near-infinite content tail. The daily challenge — a fixed map, mode, and tower restriction that every player worldwide tackles — creates a shared experience that the community discusses and speed-solves daily.
YOUR CRASH COURSE
Place Towers Along the Track
Drag monkeys from the sidebar onto the map, positioning them where their range overlaps the track for maximum coverage. Ninja monkeys see camo bloons that others ignore; bomb towers clear clustered waves; ice monkeys slow everything in a radius. A balanced defense covers camo detection, lead-bloon penetration, MOAB-class destruction, and wave-clear density.
Choose Upgrade Paths Strategically
Each tower has two upgrade paths, and by tier 3 you must commit to one path or the other (the unchosen path locks at tier 2). Path commitment shapes a tower's role — a path-1 village boosts nearby tower income; a path-2 village extends range and reduces ability cooldowns. The same tower, different path, entirely different function.
Build an Economy with Banana Farms
Banana farms generate cash per round rather than popping bloons. Investment in early-game farms snowballs into a late-game economy that can fund tier-5 upgrades across the entire map. But over-investing in farms leaves your defense too weak to handle the escalating mid-game waves — the farm-versus-defense balance is the game's central economic tension.
Pop MOAB-Class Bloons Before They Leak
Standard bloons are warm-ups. MOABs (Massive Ornary Air Blimps), BFBs (Brutal Floating Behemoths), and ZOMGs (Zeppelin Of Mighty Gargantuaness) require concentrated fire from high-tier towers. MOAB-class bloons move slowly but absorb enormous damage, and when destroyed, release swarms of smaller bloons — a single leaking MOAB cascade can end a run that was dominating seconds earlier.
Master Special Missions and Odyssey Mode
Special missions apply modifiers — half cash, double-speed bloons, no monkey knowledge (account-upgrades disabled), reverse track direction. Odyssey mode chains multiple maps in sequence with a shared tower pool, forcing resource management across an entire campaign rather than optimizing for a single map. Completing an Odyssey on hard difficulty with the restricted tower pool is the game's ultimate flex.
