Game Overview
WHY YOU CAN'T PUT IT DOWN: Brotato: Premium
A Potato with a Gun and a Death Wish
Brotato drops you — a potato wielding up to six weapons simultaneously — into waves of alien enemies that escalate from manageable to screen-filling in minutes. Auto-attacking weapons, manual dodging, and rapid-fire upgrade decisions between waves create a roguelite loop so tight that "one more run" becomes "five more runs" before you notice the sun coming up.
Weapon Synergies That Break the Game (Intentionally)
Dual-wielding SMGs with attack-speed boosts turns you into a bullet hose. Six rocket launchers with explosion-radius upgrades fills the screen with fire. Six sticks (primitive weapons whose damage scales with the number of sticks equipped) is a meme build that somehow works. Discovering absurd weapon combinations is the game's central joy, and the character roster is designed around enabling those discoveries.
Characters That Rewire the Rules
Each potato character (dozens of them) carries a unique trait that fundamentally alters how you build — one starts with massive damage but loses materials every second, forcing hyper-aggressive play; another converts all lifesteal into attack speed; a third can't equip weapons above tier 1 but gains exponentially scaling engineering bonuses. The character-specific rules create genuinely distinct runs rather than stat-percentage tweaks.
Dodge or Die
There is no block button, no i-frame dodge roll with invincibility frames. Your potato moves, and moving out of enemy hitboxes is your only defense. The bullet-hell DNA means positioning, pathing through swarms, and reading enemy attack patterns are the skills that separate surviving runs from the five-second wipeouts that populate your early attempts.
YOUR CRASH COURSE
Auto-Attack, Manual Dodge
Weapons fire automatically at the nearest enemy based on attack speed and range. Your only input is movement — strafe to kite pursuing swarms, weave between projectile patterns, and find the narrow gaps in enemy formations. The single-input design lets you focus entirely on survival positioning while your potato handles offense.
Buy Weapons and Items Between Waves
Each wave lasts 20-60 seconds. Between waves, spend materials (dropped by enemies) in a randomly generated shop offering weapons, stat-boosting items, and consumables. Weapon slots hold up to six, and weapon type determines attack pattern (melee swings, ranged shots, elemental AoE, engineering turrets). Item effects compound — stacking attack speed with lifesteal with dodge chance creates multiplicative power curves.
Build Around Your Character's Trait
Character selection determines your build direction before the first shop appears. A character with +50% explosion damage should prioritize explosive weapons and radius upgrades. A character with engineering stat bonuses ignores weapon damage entirely, stacking engineering for turret and mine damage. Fighting your character's intended build is possible but makes the run harder than it needs to be.
Survive 20 Waves to Win
Each wave increases enemy count, introduces new enemy types, and escalates the projectile density. Wave 20 is a boss encounter. Surviving all 20 waves is a win condition. The wave timer creates natural escalation — early waves are manageable with starter weapons; late waves demand an optimized build, smart positioning, and the kind of near-miss dodging that leaves your heart racing.
Unlock Characters, Weapons, and Difficulty Tiers
Win conditions unlock new characters, new weapons, and higher difficulty tiers (Danger 1 through Danger 5). Each difficulty tier escalates enemy stats, wave composition, and boss mechanics. The full roster takes hundreds of runs to unlock. Danger 5 with every character is a completionist goal measured in months.
