Game Overview

WHY YOU CAN'T PUT IT DOWN: Uboat Attack

Silent Hunters of the Deep

Uboat Attack puts you at the periscope of a WWII submarine, stalking Allied convoys through the Atlantic in tense cat-and-mouse engagements where patience, positioning, and torpedo mathematics determine survival. The slow-burn tension of creeping into a convoy's center, loosing a full spread, and diving deep to evade depth-charge counterattacks captures submarine warfare's unique psychological pressure.

Authentic Submarine Systems Management

Torpedo tubes, ballast tanks, battery levels, oxygen reserves, and crew morale form interlocking systems that demand constant attention. Run the electric motors too long underwater and you'll surface with empty batteries into the path of a destroyer. Push the diesel engines too hard on the surface and every escort within sonar range triangulates your position.

Torpedo Mathematics as Combat

Range, speed, bearing, and target course must align for a firing solution. Lead a fast-moving destroyer by the wrong margin and your torpedo crosses harmlessly astern. The game's firing computer assists with calculations, but manual override — accounting for target zigzag patterns, convoy speed changes, and evasive maneuvering — rewards players who learn to read the geometry themselves.

Dynamic Atlantic Campaign

Convoy routes, weather patterns, escort compositions, and technology levels shift across a campaign timeline that spans 1939 through 1945. Early-war patrols against unescorted merchants feel like a different game from late-war missions where radar-equipped destroyers and airborne patrols turn every attack run into a survival gamble.

YOUR CRASH COURSE

Navigate the Atlantic Campaign Map

Plot patrol routes across a dynamic map where convoy lanes, weather systems, and Allied air cover evolve across the war years. Fuel management determines patrol range — push too far into the mid-Atlantic without reserves and the return trip becomes a crisis. Port upgrades between patrols (better torpedoes, radar warning receivers, hull reinforcement) reflect historical U-boat technology progression.

Stalk Convoys and Set Up Attack Runs

Detect a convoy through hydrophone contacts, then maneuver into an attack position ahead of its projected course. Surface running closes distance faster but risks visual detection; submerged approach is slower and consumes battery but preserves the element of surprise. The approach phase can take ten minutes of real-time maneuvering before the first torpedo launches.

Calculate Firing Solutions

Input target range (stadimeter estimation through the periscope), speed (measured by bow-to-stern transit time across the crosshair), and angle on bow (visual estimation of target's relative heading). The TDC (torpedo data computer) generates a firing solution. Fire a spread of two to four torpedoes with spread angles to account for calculation uncertainty — a single torpedo hit might cripple a freighter; a full-spread impact can break a tanker in half.

Dive Deep and Survive Depth Charges

After torpedo impact, crash-dive below the thermal layer and rig for silent running. Destroyer sonar pings intensify as escorts triangulate your position; depth charges detonate in patterns that escalate in accuracy if you maintain course and speed. Changing depth, heading, and speed between charge patterns while managing battery levels and oxygen is the game's most intense sequence.

Complete War Patrol Objectives and Return Home

Each patrol carries specific objectives — tonnage quotas, specific high-value targets (carriers, battleships), reconnaissance of enemy harbors. Returning to port with objectives complete unlocks upgrades, crew promotions, and new patrol zones. A patrol that sinks nothing but survives to report a convoy's position still advances the strategic layer, rewarding prudent captains alongside aggressive ones.
